"You Haven't Tasted Beef Until You've Tasted Grass-Fed.
Today more than ever, the source of your food matters. Gone are the days when you could trust your neighborhood butcher or grocer to provide your family with wholesome, fresh food free from unnatural – and dangerous – hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, and herbicides.
Sadly, Big Agriculture and mega-food corporations have largely taken over smaller, family-run operations. We've lost the caring connection of those businesses to an unprecedented, almost furious quest putting profit before food quality and even safety.Their perceived need for cheap, mass produced, convenient food products has unfortunately led to a nutritional deficiency epidemic. As a result, Americans live in a land of plenty, but the bounty no longer provides proper nutrition.
Lucky for us, some of those smaller, caring family-run businesses still exist. And along with them, sources of food as pure as days past and healthier than ever. Untainted by growth hormones and antibiotics, animals are free to roam in pastures free from pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Perhaps most importantly, these animals are free to eat the food nature intended.
REAL Cows Eat Grass -- Not Grains
Cattle were not designed to eat grains. And because of that, their diet of grains in factory farms largely contributes to the negative aspects of eating beef.
The fat content of beef is the primary reason it has lost ground as a respectable entrée on America's dinner table. Not only do most beef cuts have a high fat content, ranging from 35-75%, but the majority of it is saturated.
"Grain-fed beef can have an omega 6:3 ratio higher than 20:1"-- J. Anim. Sci. 2000. 78:2849-2855
This well exceeds the 4:1 ratio where health problems begin to show up because of the essential fat imbalance. Grain-fed beef can also have over 50% of the total fat as the far less healthy saturated fat.
Grass-fed beef has an omega 6:3 ratio of 0.16 to 1.
This is the ratio science suggests is ideal for our diet. This is about the same ratio that fish has. Grass-fed beef usually has less than 10% of its fat as saturated. If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mom, the extra omega 3 from the grass-fed beef will provide incredible nutritional benefits for your child.
Grass-Fed Beef Enhances Your Health in More Ways Than One...
Compared to grain-fed cattle, grass-fed beef is:- Two to four times richer in heart healthy omega 3 fatty acids.
- Higher in "good" unsaturated fats and lower in "bad" saturated fats.
- Three to five times higher in CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) content.
- Loaded with over 400% more of vitamin A (as beta carotene) and E.
- Virtually devoid of risk of Mad Cow Disease.
You May Even Lose Weight With Grass-Fed Beef
Here's another thing about grass-fed beef… CLA is a naturally occurring fat found in animal and dairy fats such as beef and poultry that are not fed grains. As soon as you start to feed cattle grain, they start to lose their ability to produce CLA. Animals that graze on pasture have from 300 to 400% more CLA than animals fattened on grain in a feedlot.
As we all know, diet and exercise are required to lose weight. However, University of Wisconsin research shows that CLA intake assists individuals who lose weight in preventing putting pounds back on.
Obviously, CLA enriched beef will not enable you to lose significant weight without other dietary measures and exercise, so please review my optimal food choice program for additional suggestions.
The human intestine produces CLA naturally from linoleic acid. Recent studies have been conducted on attaining a higher CLA content in daily food intake because of possible health benefits such as weight loss.
You Can Feed Your Family 100% Grass-Fed Beef With Minimal Concern of Deadly Food Infections
Mad Cow has killed nearly 100 people in Europe, and most experts believe that it is related to the way the animals are raised, what foods the animals are fed and pesticides that they are exposed to.While Mad Cow Disease has not been officially reported in the US, a similar disease, scrapie, has already been reported in sheep in the US.
Mad Cow Disease is notoriously difficult to test for. Adding to the concern it may take over 30 years for Mad Cow Disease to incubate!
Even the conservative Consumer Reports believes that it is possible, and is concerned that Mad Cow Disease may spread to the US.
You can virtually eliminate any potential risk for this problem by restricting your beef intake to grass-fed beef.
Foot and Mouth Disease is a dreaded disease in Europe and they have destroyed many of their cattle as a result of this problem. Foot and Mouth Disease is far less likely to occur in grass-fed cattle, which is why many Europeans are choosing grass-fed for their beef selection.
In addition to the Mad Cow and Foot and Mouth Disease risk, you are probably familiar with the issue of dangerous E. coli infections that have killed people in the past.
Protect Your Family's Health With Safe Beef
Feeding dead cats and dogs to cattle was legal in the US until 1997 when the government banned the practice because of fears over mad cow disease. Dead horses and pigs, however, are still occasionally ground into cattle feed.
One quarter of America's minced beef, writes Schlosser, is made from worn-out dairy cattle, likely to be riddled with disease and the meat containing antibiotic residues.
Grain feeding promotes the growth of dangerous E. coli that is more likely to pass through your stomach and infect your colon. When cattle are fed grass, the amount of dangerous E. coli decreases dramatically. (Microbes Infect 2000 Jan;2(1):45-53).
The USDA imposed rules reclassifying as "safe for human consumption" animal carcasses with cancers, tumors and open sores. Do you really want to eat beef like this?
When you feed your family 100% grass-fed beef, you can feel quite confident that you are doing the best you can to dramatically reduce, if not eliminate, the risk of most of these infections.
I Have Been Eating Grass-Fed Beef Since February of 2001
But the amazing thing is that the fat is a completely different color than grain-fed beef. It is nearly clear and much thinner. This should not be surprising, but is an interesting physical confirmation of the huge difference there is in the fat between these two types of food.
The flavor, look, smell, and texture of grass-fed beef differs slightly from grain-fed beef. Many enjoy it immediately because it actually tastes like beef is supposed to taste. Others, accustomed to the blander taste of mass-produced beef, may be surprised by its fuller, richer flavor.
I have many patients who were raised in rural sections of Europe where this is the only type of beef they ate. When they came over to the US they were very disappointed with the flavor of our grain-fed beef. So it is all a matter of what one is used to.
Due to the lower fat content in grass-fed beef, you may want to experiment a little with various cooking methods to find what works best for you.
Real Grass-Fed Beef Can Be Difficult to Find
It may be true that the animals are given grains that are organic. However, organic grain-fed beef is only marginally better than commercial grocery store beef where the grains the animals are fed are not organic.
So don't pay twice as much for organic grain-fed beef and continue to get inferior quality.
The best way to purchase grass-fed beef is to find a local rancher who is raising grass-fed cattle and then purchase the meat from him. This will save you the shipping.
Unfortunately, most of us city dwellers do not have easy access or even know ranchers who are raising grass-fed cattle. That is why I have partnered up with an exceptional company to provide superior 100% grass-fed beef for you.
Introducing a Passionate Approach to Grass-Fed Beef
Our customers rely on us for the best tasting organic meats in the country. And here's why...
- The cattle are raised by farmers and ranchers who are just as passionate when it comes to raising great tasting meats.
- We insist on 100% satisfaction with every interaction you have with us - from ordering on the internet or on the phone to receiving and unpacking your order.
- After spending countless hours talking with hundreds of ranchers and taking the time to ensure both the animals and land are well cared for, we ensure the cattle receive the different types of nutritious forage they need.
- Rather than using common, but cheap, wet aging, we use only expensive 21-day dry-aging methods to bring you a concentrated, rich, natural beef flavor. Dry aging allows the meat’s natural enzymes to break down tough connective tissue, giving you a more tender product.

"Beyond Organic" - We Take It to a Whole New Level
To demonstrate our absolute commitment to the environment and the original intent of organic agriculture, we go "beyond organic" and use farms that are completely self-sufficient and sustainable. Our ranchers treat their animals humanely. Allowing them to graze freely, they rotate pastures to allow the grass and soil to replenish naturally. Cattle are only fed forage from the ranch. No synthetic growth hormones or antibiotics are used.
Commonly used in factory farms, growth hormones make cattle grow faster. Not only are they suspected of causing negative health effects in humans, they contaminate surface and groundwater. The widespread overuse of antibiotics in farm animals has contributed to the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, making it more difficult to treat serious human disease.
Farms that practice sustainable agriculture are good for the environment. By reducing their use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers and using less fuel to truck in pesticides, fertilizers and feed, they decrease chemical run-off and the dependence on foreign oil. These farms have a smaller carbon footprint and help replenish and rejuvenate the land for future generations.
